Arctic light hunting & arctic adventures at Andöy Outdoor centre


While wandering at dawn with your guide in a fantastic pricturesque surroundings you may be lucky to come across `the king of the forest` the Moose. You can also enjoy the excitement of ice fishing and if you are lucky even catch a few fish.
Why not stimulate your taste buds with local recipes of moose, reindeer and cloudberries which are served in the restaurant at Andøy Friluftssenter. The outdoor center was awarded Nordland counties most innovated restaurant award in 2006.
While relaxing in our hot bath tub you may be lucky to experience the fascinating Northern Lights dancing over the polar sky.
Visit the valley of Forfjord to see Norways oldest pine trees while being guided on a owl safari. You can also experience this arctic landscape by kayak and have an excellent opportunity to see seals, otters, eagles and many other types of wildlife.
Other adventures can also be arranged such as kiting, crosscountry skiing and dog sledge trips.
What better way to end your day than to dream about your days experiences in our comfortable and well equipted wilderness cabins.

Adventures are standing in line just waiting for you, and you can pick from several activities during your stay at Andöy Outdoor centre:

  • Price rate per person in cabin at Andöy Outdoor centre included breakfast; per day NOK 1200
  • Fun with snow shoes and skiing: from NOK 1000
  • Guided wild life safari: from NOK 2000
  • Outdoor lunch for groups up to: from  NOK 4000
  • Hot bathtub per 4 hours: NOK 1500 (up to 12 persons)

The trips and activities demands that the participants must have the following equipment:

  • Warm waterproof boots
  • Outdoor clothing for arctic hiking
  • Wind and waterproof clothing
  • Light backpack 30-50L
  • Water bottle, thermos and cup
  • Fishing equipment (can also be rented at Andöy Outdoor centre /Andöy Friluftssenter)

Our menu is composed of local and regional food. 

 The region of Vesterålen is like a never ending pantry that is filled up constantly throughout the seasons of the year with some of the best food you can imagine.

Most of our dishes can be altered to compensate for people with food intolerances.

If you would like to expose your taste buds to our Northern Light Menu, it is necessary to pre book the day before.

 

Arctic Romance

Game pasty – a combination of tender reindeer and moose meat, bacon and herbs encased in light puff pastry. Served with a salad and vinaigrette dressing.

Herbal marinated arctic charr with hazelnut butter sauce, stir fried seasonal vegetables and homemade potato puree.         Last but not least

Friluftssenter cloudberries and whipped cream with a traditional wafer biscuit.

 

Deep sea surprise

NOK 475

Carpaccio – finely sliced cognac marinated whale meat. Served with a green salad, white goats cheese and walnuts.

Monk fish – in a white wine & pepper sauce, served on a bed of cognac flambé vegetables, and boiled potatoes.

Cloudberry cheese cake – local made cheese from Nordtun Farm,

topped with friluftssenter cloudberries.

 

The king of the forest

Buksnesfjord bruschetta – homemade bread marinated in garlic, herbs and olive oil. Tomato & basil salad, and locally produced cheese in Andøy.

Moose pie – tender moose meat served with broccoli, carrots and potato puree rosettes.

Warm cognac marinated cloudberries – served with vanilla ice cream.

Hunting soup – with leeks, mushrooms, onions, bacon and tasteful mixture of herbs and sherry. Leg of wild lamb – served with herb baked potato wedges, gratinated cauliflower cheese and a rich

game sauce.

Egg liquor with warm forest berry sauce, crushed almond caramel and vanilla ice cream.
